Hi everyone,
I rent a house threw a private landlord advertised in my local paper, we moved in March this yr few weeks after moving in the boiler broke down my Landlord sent his plumber to fix it, the plumber said the boiler was about 12yrs old wasn't worth fixing, my landlord paid for the part and fixed it, at the time l could smell gas under the stairs where the mains gas comes into the property, the plumber said it was fine. I took his word for it as lve not used gas heating for long time, over time living here l was feeling unwell on and off.
October we started putting the heating on and l become very unwell went to the doctors under went every test and all came back normal, ended up in hosipital, 10 weeks on still suffering my son and daughter where also feeling unwell, my son came home from his Dad's on Sunday as usual he said that when he at dads he was feeling ok now after being at home for few hrs he was feeling unwell again.
I also noticed my dog was acting very strange so putting this all together l rang british gas suspecting co poisioning. There is no monitor in the property. And no gas certificate.
Transco came out found a gas leak which they fixed in same place l'd smelt it, also there is lead pipping carrying gas to the boiler in the house which they said is very corroded bent and twisted and said that needs to be removed before the gas can be turned back on. They spoke to my Landlord saying where is the gas certificate for the property which should be here at all times. My landlord said that the certificate was carried out in March which l found very hard to believe as l hadn't seen one or anyone carry out any checks, Transco don't carry co monitors with them but advised me to ring enviromental angency but the plumber who has to remove the pipe should carry one.
In the evening after the plumber coming out to check saying that the gas hob was probaly the cause of co poisioning but as he he didn't want to turn the gas on and didn't have a working co tester with him. My Landlord arrives at my property saying the certificate was done in January before we moved in. He said the gas hob will be replaced Fri this was Wed. The plumber will be here Sat to refit gas pipes to the boiler.
I went to my doctors on Thursday with my son, she agreed that it is high possiblity that it could of been co poisioning as she had run test for everything else. As the gas had been turned off over 24hrs would be very hard to detect in blood test etc.
I rang my local council who deal with enviromental health, they were not helpful at all they said: if your landlord says he has a certificate and fixing the problem then thats good and they wouldn't visit the property till the end of next week. I explained that l hadn't seen the certificate but they seem not keen to get involed left me feeling very abandon by the people l expected to help me with an awful situation lve been unable to work for over 12 weeks and being self employed found it very difficult to survive being a single mother of two.
My Landlord rang that evening informing me that the plumber has said that the certificate was done in March and in March that pipe wasn't twisted etc and that it was my fault! He also said that he's decided to gut this place turning in into a holiday home and will be giving me notice to leave in Feb. Yet two weeks earlier he offered me a two yr tenancy agreement. Im self employed for under a yr, so renting threw an agency will very difficult as l have no accounts etc.
Me and my family have suffered alot at the hands of our private landlord lm lost to where to turn to. I rang my council asking about re homing they said there's nothing they can do till he puts in writing which will be feb with a month notice.
Im feeling very threatened in my home due to me looking out for my family health!
I also have concerns as l know my landlord rents other properties out in the area.
I rang cab also they advised me to ring council and see a local solictor which lm hoping to do next week. Im worried for me and my children as to be left homeless in the new yr as l know the waiting list is at least two yrs for a local authority home. Unable to fund a deposit etc for a rented home threw an agency.
I can only buy my electricity threw my landlord lm hoping he doesn't with hold electric cards as there is no where else to purchase them.
Any advice who help would be very gratefully apriecated
Many Thanks
