  • Question mark over debt - liable or not?

I really like Curly Ben's approach to Mackenzie Hall and have already asked him the question but i'm not looking for a fight with DCA and don't want bad debt against my name.

Christmas 2003 i got a Debenhams storecard, then managed by GE Capital. I only bought a pair of shoes on it. I then paid around £18 by D/debit for 49 consecutive months from April 2004 to May 2008 before going to work in Italy. I didn't contact them and can't remember cancelling the D/d instruction myself. My bank tells me it was cancelled "by originator request", which usually means the payee BUT not necessarily (according to the bank it's too long ago to tell). It could have been me..

So it is conceivable that i didn't pay the debt in full (though, after 49 months, i can't have been far off). I thought i had.

It doesn't show on my Credit Report as outstanding.

They're now saying i owe them 600 odd quid which sounds criminal.

Any ideas? Am i liable? do i ignore as Curly Ben says?
    Many thanks
    Io

Well 18 by 49 is nearly £900 and they say you still owe 600.
    *Cough* yeah right.

Seriously Mucky Hall are bottom feeders that rely on empty threats.
They are well known for "purchasing" completely unenforceable and statute barred debts.

So have a laugh at their expense, especially as it doesn't appear on your credit file, and file under I
