Yup, contrary to the popular misconception, we are not all tax-evading millionaires. Many are as poor, or even poorer, than their mainland conterparts.
Plus we have an archaic and protectionist fiefdom-based legal system to contend with (Jersey makes its own laws) that is heavily weighted in favour of the "haves" to the detriment of the "have-nots".
Indeed, Debtors Prison and Capital Punishment still existed here within the past two or three decades and up until quite recently, homosexuality was illegal as was buying alcohol (or even dancing) on a Sunday.
Abusing children on the other hand, whilst not being mandatory nor overly endemic, does appear to be condoned and those perpetrators protected - go figure that one!
Jersey doesn't even have a Freedom of Information Act!!!!!
Would be pleased to hear from any Channel Island "Davids" who defeated a "Goliath" despite the obstacles.
Thanks for reading.
