I went over there for the first time in quite a while. There were adverts for CMC;s to claim missold PPI, British Gas, and motor insurance....was very very very surprised on the link to a CMC but you gotta make your money in some way even if it means suppressing your moral beliefs.

I understand the Google Ads are only visible to guests, or if you are not logged in under your Username.

I gather they are just trialling this at the moment, presumably to see if it actually produces some income.

These forums can cost a fair bit to run, and managing to keep them free to use can be difficult without using advertising/affiliate links. You just have to try tailor any ads as best you can so they are unobtrusive and appropriate for the userbase. I think Martin Lewis has a very good model for revenue creation.

We're still pretty teeny in comparison and can survive on donations for a while yet.

I don't have a problem with adverts and income generation for forums such as these, as long as they do not compromise the 'ethos' or 'morals' of the site in question.

Adverts for CMCs (if true on CAG) would be stepping over that mark IMHO.

As of course is allowing DCAs to post...........

I don't mind donating to this site Ame, never have, never will.

I'm not sure I would of ever donated to CAG, just because I wouldn't give money to people who could be rude and at times mean to peeps who's confidence was low anyway...

Plus there was always an elitist vibe going on and I'm not paying to join that club...

I made a donation once - if I thought I'd get anywhere, I'd ask Marc to return that payment.

I have quite an audience with the Youtube clips I posted, and I may post an update clip - my first one that encourages the listeners NOT to go to that site.

If I had known that something as rotten as this was going to happen in the future, I never would have recommended the site at all - because I did recommend it, and repeatedly defended it, I now feel 'cheated' and that I've somehow inadvertently misled people.

I hope what never happens is that someone has seen one of my clips, referred to the site, and been talked by a DCA on that site into wrongful or misleading advice.

In answer to the last point, I'm not quite sure about the rudeness, or meanness, Luminol - I guess it depends on who you mean.

I have looked on the CAG website and they have adverts for Pay Day Loans.

I think this is absurd when so many are turning to them for help because they have gotten into a mess with these loan sharks.

I for certain will not be visiting their site any more

I notice there are a few posters on GAG who are taking quite an elitist approach. A shame, because my bone of contention is purely with the site team and not with any of its regular posters (who sharply cut 'James' from Lowell down to size).

It's a shame I had to leave, but feel there's no choice - not just because of various of my posts being pulled without explanation (fair enough the last couple were accusing the site admin), but because the site has forgotten its main purpose.

Allowing Lowell to post there and advise people to contact them is extremely misleading and confusing to new posters, and extremely offensive to old posters - especially if those posters have suffered under Lowell in the past.

When over 75% of the poll agreed that Lowell shouldn't have been allowed to post there, and then the poll was hurriedly taken down, as well as any threads that discuss the problem, it has given the appearence that the site admin have something to hide. And the lack of willingness to discuss the problem on their part is a huge error of judgement.

And if any posts I make get taken down within an hour, what's the point in wasting my time there?

Geuss What I Was Totaly Unaware That Lowells Had Been Allowed On The Cag Forum Until A Few Minits Ago,so All This Was Rumblim Along Without My Knowledge Lol Doh But I Had Been Planning To Leave Completely A Few Weeks Ago After The Vj Affair But Was Commited To Holding The Fort With A Few Peeps Who Have Real Problems With Mortgage Express So I Need To Get It Up And Running Again And See What Can Be Done To Help Them....
