• Natwest are useless! Can anyone advise me on how to sue them for ruining my life

Natwest have been absolutely shocking to us as customers. I have a joint loan with my husband however when he was made redundant we asked NatWest to look at our loan and consider a lower monthly payment as we simply couldn’t afford the £300+ a month. We sought advice from Consumer Credit Services as to our options and were told by them and Natwest to write in with our offer. We did this with all our expenditure etc...

Natwest stopped taking any loan re-payments (NOT US!!), taking them 3 months + lots of phone calls to even acknowledge receiving the letter/offer. After that we continued to keep chasing our loan account from one department to another as my husband found out in one telephone call that our offer had been rejected (later told the computer did that as one amount on our expenditure was a .99 figure. We did everything we were ever asked and had to do all the calling and chasing but still it wasn't being sorted out. We remianed Natwest customers but wish we hadn't now!

This has been going on for 15 months now! The bank had been charging us what I guess is interest every month-nothing has been explained. The bank then suddenly, with no warning or communication to me or my husband, took all of the money out of our accounts and said they have closed them andcancelled all our direct debits and standing orders. Our loan had been passed to recoveries and they wouldn’t give us any money back unless we set up a payment plan with them on the phone there and then. They asked for £200 and said we would face bailiffs and court proceedings if we didn't arrange a plan and my husband agreed to £100 per month. Incidentally at 9am today they added another £10 monthly direct debit out of our joint account on for repaying the loan without asking or telling us.

We have started compiling a list of all our dealings and would like to take legal advice but can't afford a private solicitor. We are both low earners and every penny we have goes on the house, bills and kids. I was wondering of the Office of Fair Trading might be worth a try? We have again asked for a lump resettlement figure as we have managed to save some of our student loans. We both went back to University as there are just no jobs in our area although my husband and I also work part-time jobs too.

All advice will be gratefully recieved x

Did you stop using the NatWest bank account?
I assume you were only covering the loan account through the bank, is that right?
