  • eCollect "extra judicial" threat

    Hi All,

I received a letter from eCollect related to an alleged debt to Budget rent a car. They state that they have been "assigned with the collection" of the amount, which is £44 plus c£90 in inflated charges.
I can't find any prior communication from Budget but it does correlate to a car rental I had .

From other threads it would seem like they are a "known entity" and cannot enforce on me in the UK as they are not the owner of the debt (I have not been informed that the debt has been sold).

However, in the last part of the letter they are threatening me with "further extrajudicial colleciton measures".
No idea what this means, sounds like an empty threat, wondering if anyone had any ideas?

It's meaningless BS designed to intimidate you into coughing up.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
