Hi
i'd like to know if i might have a case of medical negligence with this. My mother died recently and i'm looking for advice about her treatment at the hospital and her death. She was blind, epileptic and elderly, she went to the hospital because of a non epileptic seizure, we weren't told what caused this but usually it was because of a UTI, she spent since early september in the hospital, she was left to fall out of bed twice, there was a time i had to complain because she wasn't being fed, i asked someone to sit with her to make sure she was ok when she was awake to make sure she didn't hurt herself as she was suffering from very bad confusion but they weren't, patients on her ward were telling me they fend for themselves alot because the staff don't help them. my mother was incredibly confused with no explanation at all, they ignored us when we requested they do a water infection or they told one person they did it then the next they didn't do it. they told us various different potential diagnosis all of which turned out to be wrong, we requested a water test at least 4 times and they didn't do it to my knowledge. after a few weeks she was stuck in the hospital bed constantly so we asked them to do physiotherapy with her and they said they would, i met with her consultant and he told me they wouldn't allow her to come home while she was in a confused state until they get to the bottom of the cause. he said they would start physiotherapy with her but they never did. as time went on she progressively got worse with blisters showing up on her tongue randomly with no explanation, she was eating less and less and the staff put it down to her refusal although she was still very confused so she couldn't eat if they told her too and she needed feeding. She ate whenever me and my brothers showed up and fed her. as we got to october i got told she had been diagnosed with Delirium with no cause given. As time went on longer her tongue and whole mouth and lips turned black from some kind of infection with no explanation as to what it was or the cause. she regressed alot getting more depressed as she spent more time in there and they wouldn't let her home because of the confusion. then on 24th November i was told my mother was gonna die she wouldn't live for much longer and they were gonna start end of life care with her. this was incredibly shocking and extremely difficult to deal with because we never thought this was possible. over the next few days (monday - saturday) they wouldn't feed her or give her drinks, her mouth was still black, she wasn't talking and was basically in a coma but she was fighting alot to try and survive, we got told she wouldn't make it through the night on wednesday but she did there was no explanation to what she was dying from except the earlier diagnosis of delirium without ever telling us what caused it. they put her on oxycodone for pain but then said she wasn't in pain and they made sure she had her epileptic medication, they stopped all other meds she was on and she was on a few. on friday i was complained that there wasn't a definitive diagnosis so they told me it was delirium caused by epilepsy and they wanted to put epilepsy as the cause of death. I believe she had an untreated water infection or UTI and it spread through her body causing the delirium that led to her death, she died on saturday morning at 6am, she only ever had non epileptic seizures whenever she had an infection and the hospital didn't tell us she'd had any. whenever we asked they told us she was doing fine and better. throughout her time there we saw patients wandering the ward unsupervised, they had two covid outbreaks and my mother and other patients were barely fed or taken to the bathroom. so does anyone know if i could have a medical negligence case here?
