I have an abandoned car that's been sitting idle in a demised parking space for over a year. I have recently contacted the registered keeper, via information provided by the DVLA. The keeper did not reply. As such I am considering using bailiffs to have the car removed.
If the owner/keeper does not remove it themselves after the bailiffs contact them, the bailiffs will look to sell the car if it has value. Any value realised goes towards paying removal fees such as the bailiffs fees, auction/storage fees etc. Any money above this is supposed to be kept, I believe, for up to 6 years.
On this front I have several questions:
1. Is 6 years the correct amount of time to hold the money on the behalf of the owner/keeper?
2. Can this money be kept in an interest account?
3. Would the interest also be owed to the owner/keeper and/or would this be considered my profiting from the sale which I believe is not allowed?
4. In order for the owner to request the money does this require the bailiffs to have given my personal details to the owner/keeper?
