  • Banned from Tesco Express

    I'm from Liverpool, England.

I'm a Tesco store colleague at the superstore in Woolton.

I was in the Allerton Road Tesco Express to purchase a packet of raisins.

I parked an e-scooter outside and accidentally left my shopping bag from the nearby Sainsbury's Local with food on it.

As I went to the till, I realised I left it on the scooter and panicked, thinking someone was going to either take it or tamper with it, so went to exit the shop to bring it in, only to forget I had a packet of raisins from your shop in my hand. I was then stopped by the security guard as he thought I was attempting to steal the packet of raisins.

I was then pushed to the checkout where I was searched. The guard then told me I was banned from the shop, thinking I had tried to steal. Despite me attempting to explainthe situation, he wouldn't listen.

So I spoke to another member of staff and explained the situation and showed the staff the bag that had been left on my scooter, they accepted, but said they would still need to investigate the issue via CCTV, which is fair enough.

As a Tesco Colleague myself, I can confidently promise I would not attempt to steal from any store!

Nonetheless, I am shaken up by this whole ordeal, I feel I need to write this on here for the sake of getting it out as I'm worried that this will get back to the superstore I work in and I'm just generally shaken up.

I'm honestly just wondering if anything else will happen beyond this. Again, will this get back to the store I work in, will I be fined, will I be threatened with legal action, what do I do now?

      Hi CALLUMPL

      Welcome to LB

Nothing should happen, nothing was taken, they accepted it was a mistake. You wouldn't be stupid enough to try to steal a packet of raisins and 'scupper' your career prospects. That should be the end of it.

The worst bit if it did happen, is that you say 'I was then pushed to the checkout where I was searched'. He shouldn't be pushing you anywhere and certainly shouldn't be searching you near the checkouts, in view of other customers / employees.

Security guards has certain protocols they should follow, pushing / searching you near the checkouts isn't one of them. You should be escorted to a room away from the store floor etc.

Well, he somewhat accepted anyway. I just need to make sure, as I say, no further action is taken.
