  • Do I need to send Death Certificate to probate ?

I just completed the online probate application. My father died recently, the 'estate' is 'excepted' and consists of a small house, a few thousand in a bank account and an old car - total value below 325k.
I have death certificate but nowhere on the online probate application did it mention sending this certificate to them. However I read somewhere online that I should still send the death certificate to HMCTS Probate, Harlow. Is this correct ? - it says nothing of this on the gov.uk online application website, and I don't want to have to wait 16 weeks only to find probate is on hold because they don't have the death certificate.

    - Thanks

Yes, there is a list of documents you need to send. A copy of the Death Certificate is the first on the list. the will, photo ID, court fee.

I should have said I found the list on http://www.probatesonline.co.uk/docu...022-in-the-uk/
Had your father not have owned a house, or it was in joint names, then depending on his bank, probate may not have been necessary.

It is useful to know that the person concerned is deceased.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
