  • Repeated issues with local council waste collection

More specifically the incompetent binmen. Usually my food recycling is just left there when it should have been taken by the recycling collection team. This week however, I encountered a new level of incompetence. My food recycling bin had been emptied into my black bin for general waste. My black bin had previously been emptied about 20mins earlier. How unbelievably lazy! The truck was like 6ft away but who ever did this just tossed it into my black bin assuming I'd never notice!
When I confronted one of the recycling team about it, he simply blamed the team that collects the general waste. This was obviously BS and I just went back to my house. I then sent a complaint to the local council.

Legally speaking, is there anything practical I could do to get these binmen reprimanded?

    Hi Jack

    Welcome to LB

Have you got CCTV or Webcam? or you could use your Smartphone.

    Concrete evidence would be good.

I don't think you need to go down the 'legal' root (if there is one). Follow your complaint through via the Council's complaint procedure, once you receive a final response / deadlock letter, if it isn't resolved or you are still unhappy, you can lodge a complaint with the LGO.

You can always complain to the council but from experience it never pays to get the refuse collectors back up, you may find your bin goes missing next time.

To be honest I have no intention of following thru on any action as of this moment, just want to know what my options are. The automated response I got from my complaint said the council will respond within 20 days. If one of the binmen has a heart attack I'll send another email immediately lol.

        Thanks for the replies
