  • Default on Credit File

    Hi,

Firstly, I hope you are all ok in these current times. I really need some advice and I will try to be as brief as I can. Short story, Messy Divorce 10 years ago. Worked immensely hard to clear everything on my credit file which I managed to do. In 2020 a default notice showed up on my file for £37 from BT. This was an error, I raised a query via Experian and they investigated and replied saying the default marker has been removed and the account has been settled as of 14/11/2006 with a zero balance.

Fast forward to now. I have a mortgage and have zero missed payments or issues for the last 8 years and the same default has appeared on my file (from October this year). It is £37 for BT again with no payment history and saying is was defaulted in 2019. I do not owe BT any money and have never had any correspondence from them to suggest I do. My credit score has shot down and when when I have emailed Experian they have said it is up to BT to remove this.

I logged into my old BT account and it shows a zero balance with no bill history older than 15 months. Does anyone have any advice on how I can sort this?

    I thank you in advance.

I would complain directly to BT. It appears to be their fault so they should remedy it.
Most national newspapers have a consumers page which can help. It's amazing what happens when the media become involved !
Well done on sorting out your finances. BT now needs to do it's job properly.
