  • Inheritance tied up in property with life interest

So when my father passed my stepmother was granted a life interest in the marital home where she still lives. I am a beneficiary of half of the property which will be sold when my step mother passes. My question is if I were to pass before my step mother how would this inheritance be treated for inheritance tax and how would this impact on my estate?

    Trust that makes sense

You asked this question a few days ago and I gave this answer - Unless the Will has provided for the instance where a beneficiary passes before inheriting, such as that inheritance passing to the beneficiaries spouse or children, then the inheritance would fail. It may be a good time to discuss matters with the stepmother to ensure that the actual wishes of your father are carried out if the actual wording does not show this.

Best not to confuse others by repeating a question, so I would suggest that you delete one of them.
