  • Recently sold a car with no issues, now they're claiming it needs a new clutch...

So I recently sold our previous family car, there are no issues with the car at all that I am aware of, I've been driving it 5 days a week for 3 years and it's been a reliable beauty to be fair.

Admittedly, the car had not been service in the last 30k miles, which the buyer was fully aware of, so I let him knock me down to put that towards a service.

Suddenly, after a week I've had a message from this person to say the gear stick keeps 'not wanting to go in gear' and the service has said it needs a new clutch... I'm in disbelief as I've never had an issue with the clutch 'not wanting to go in gear'. I feel as though this dodgy person is wanting money out of me.

What is my liability here, do I owe them anything?

    Thanks

Presumably a private sale, so assuming you made no misrepresentations in your advert or when talking to the buyer, your liability is nil and you owe them nothing

Clutch is a normal wear and tear item like tyres and brake shoes -
