  • Dubai debt

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can assist. I was working and living in Dubai for 4 years and unfortunately lost my job. I immediately contacted the banks to inform them I was searching for a new job and negotiate affordable payment plans. I managed to get one credit card on a payment plan for 4 years interest free (AED 30k). One other bank was very aggressive to ask for payments and intimidation after just 2 missed payments. Eventually it left me no choice but to leave or possibly have something placed like a travel ban or worse. It was a 30k credit with this bank also but seems to be increasing with charges. I intend to pay them and always have a travel route back to the UAE. Possibly live there again. Has anyone dealt with banks after you leave without informing them? They consider you an absconder? even though I intend to pay them off monthly with new job in UK. I worry that there is a problem if I was to travel there to visit family in the future.

Also worried about debt collectors, what's been recent cases of debts prviosuly left behind in UAE. Are they still.using debt collects in UK. My total debts are approx 100k (dirhams) across 6 banks.

Do banks negotiate directly with (absconders)?

Do they even bother chasing debts in UK for max 30k (dirhams)

I have a relative with a similar situation. He needed to leave Dubai in 2015 and return to UK with debts exceeding AED 100K. He has been pursued by the bank who appointed a well known debt collection agency in UK. The Debt Collection Agency have served a Court Order and provided the credit card contract details as evidence. My question is as follows:
Can such a court claim, on behalf of a UAE bank, succeed in a UK court if there has been no UAE court judgement ?
Keen to hear your thoughts on this.
