Hi, Talk Talk claimed I had an outstanding debt of a few pounds back in 2011. I never paid it as it wasn't owed, it was an error on their part. Years later I started to receive letters from Lowells trying to claim the amount. Despite assuring them they continue to write and text message. I now see they added a default on my credit history in 2018. How do I get this removed please?

    Hi Gazza

    Three things you can do:

    1) Send TalkTalk a Subject Access Request. they have 30 days to send you all the data on the account. Make sure you get Proof of Postage. Go through what they send, make your case to get the Default removed.

    2) You can get the Credit Reference Agency to add notes to your credit file, i.e. 'that the money isn't owed'.

    https://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/.../defaults.html

    3) If you can prove that the money isn't owed and the default on your credit file is inaccurate, then you need to communicate that to TalkTalk, if they still won't remove it, lodge a complaint with the ICO.
