    Hi all.

So, a week and a half ago i went down the post office to post two items. One of these was a tracked delivery and the other was a special delivery. The tracked delivery was a pre paid item that was a mobile phone to be sent to one of these companies that buys your old mobile phones off you. I handed the two items over and was then handed two receipts one that I was clearly told was for the mobile phone and the other that I was told was for the special delivery.

When i got home I inspected the two receipts and actually they were for the postage i paid on the special delivery item and the tracking number for the special delivery item. I had in fact not been given a receipt for the mobile phone that was sent on the pre paid QR code.

As luck would have it the mobile phone has gone "missing" in the post. I have approached royal mail and they have said that it is possible to make an insurance claim without the receipt. However, the company that was due to purchase the mobile phone off me is refusing to put a claim in due to the fact that they need a receipt to specify the time and date the item was sent. The thing as soon as the item was posted I was sent an email to say it was posted along with a tracking number where you can clearly see on the tracking number the date and time the item was posted.

I've rung royal mail and they have said you can still put a claim in but would have to take it up with the company the mobile phone was due to be sent to. The company in question however is refusing to budge.

Is there anything I can do to progress this? I'd really rather not lost out on the couple of hundred quid I would have got for that mobile phone.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi SALANDWAT

Go back to the post office, you have the time and date, they can give you a copy of the receipt. Then copy it and send the copy to the phone company.

I've already rung up the post office. They can't give me a copy of the receipt sadly.

You need to go into the branch that you took the phone into, speak to the manager.
The call centre will give you 'blanket' information on their general rules. It's all computerized, very easy to do.

If you have to send them a Subject Access Request, they have 30 days to provide all the data they have with reference no / time / date.
