Hi there ,
just new and already asking a question.
I split with partner in 2014.
He has lived in different places ,but I am still being billed for council tax as though there are 2 of us .
Iam exempt from paying ,so my bill should be nothing .
The council and Sheriff officers are saying we owe thousands in backdated council tax.
They asked for lease/tenancy agreements from the places he has lived and letters from his employers ,which he has sent me .
However they have rejected them all.
they are now saying he just works away from home .
Apparently he's still on the electoral roll ,and has accounts registered at my address.
my son has the same .
They accused him of living here too.
He is registered to vote here ,as I forgot to take him off and as he has Aspergers would never go to vote anywhere else without his mum.
he has bank accounts here and correspondence here as I am his appointee.They rejected this.
They relented when I reminded them that they pay his housing benefit .
Same situation with ex ,he has tenancy agreements to show lives elsewhere in a different country England,while I live in Scotland ,and that the company ley pay his utilities and council tax and have done for years.
they accept it for my son ,but not my ex .
Meantime despite being exempt I owe thousand in arrears and this years bill when it comes out will be just the same .
surely not a crime to still have correspondence at your old address .
I'm on DLA,£328.00 per month after they take mobility off.
No way I can afford this or deserve this .
