I am a member of a small fishing club (180 members) and at the last AGM, several changes were made by the committee. I proposed that all members are sent the minutes of the monthly committee meetings, I was told that it is illegal for the club to do this. Surely this is wrong? It was also proposed by a member that Officers positions of the club (chairman, Vice chairman, secretary and treasurer) cannot be held by two or more family members. Again we were told that this is illegal due to discrimination law. Is this true? and finally a rule was introduced that if a committee member resigns without giving three months notice, they can never become part of the committee again. They say that this is introduced retrospectively. Is this legal? This one affects me as I resigned in September and when I was nominated to come back on the committee at the AGM (last week), the committee came out with this rule! The committee have also stated that general members are no longer able to observe the monthly committee meetings - something that the club has allowed for the 40 years that the club has been in existence. Any help/guidance on these issue will be very much appreciated.
