  • DCB Legal Claim Form

    Hi all,

New here so please do bare with me.

September 2020 I parked in a local car park whilst out for dinner. Historically it had been free after a certain time, and the machines didn't work anyway so stupidly I didn't check. As it happens it was a new set up and I received a parking ticket a few weeks later for £100. My understanding of the law around this isn't the best but I'm sure you can only legally charge for a loss of earnings? So in my case about £2.50.

I attempted to contest this but had great difficulty speaking to anyone on the phone. I, probably in error, decided to just ignore the letters instead. I received a couple of letters here and there but I hadn't heard anything for months until last week I was issued with a claim form from DCB Legal/County Court Business Centre demanding well over £250 (including a curious 8% interest rate).

Where do I stand on this? Is this something that I'll be able to contest at all? I've submitted an AOC but I'm not sure whether I have a realistic defence or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated- these companies are disgusting.

    Many thanks in advance!
