My partner ordered an electric car via a lease company which was delivered yesterday. The car that arrived was not the colour he ordered, although the colour was not offensive. Moreso, the car that arrived was a 21 plate, not the current 71 plate and was first registered in April 2021, making it 8 months old. It had 12 delivery miles on the clock. With the car still on the transporter, we phoned the lease company who said it was a new car as it only had delivery miles and they did not state it was going to be a 71 plate. However, nowhere did they state it was not going to be a currently registered model. They offered us a £70 gift voucher if we accepted the car but after unsuccessfully trying to negotiate further with them, we rejected the car and the driver took it away. The lease company advised they do not have any other vehicles in stock and any other orders would need to be a factory order.
At the same time, the electrician was here installing the electric car charger, for which there is a £350 grant. As he then knew that we had rejected the car, he advised that he could not assign a car or valid order to the charger and so he could not claim the government grant. He has, therefore, charged us another £350 for the charger. We had already supplied him with a copy of the order but he stated that was not sufficient. He suggested we try to recover the £350 from the lease company. Is that something we can do?
