  • Council debt enforcement overpayment of housing benefit from 2012/13. It’s long paid.

    Hello.

I would appreciate if someone could advise where to post this please.
A summary is that I had an overpayment back then. I paid it. In mid June I received a letter stating I owed the council nearly a thousand pounds. The invoice due date is November 2013. Date of letter is June 2021.

I requested sar. I heard nothing back. I requested bank statements from back then but they don’t exist anymore.

I have now received a letter from a debt enforcement agent threatening action.
I know I paid this because our council would not let you owe them six pence. They are ruthless in their collection of money owed.

This is just the bare bones of it as I am aware I am probably in the wrong section.

I don’t know what to do. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi ROSEMARY123

Email the council the chase letter below to the council, email that to the 'debt enforcement agent' as well. -

I think you should also write / email the council to tell them that the council tax was payed and that you are disputing it.

Regarding the 'debt enforcement agent' read and act on the following -
