I'm being harassed by a neighbour two doors down from my home, who insists that my adult son is smoking "drugs" at his open bedroom window. He's been to the house at least three times complaining about this, and now he has private messaged me on a local forum, claiming that he's in touch with police and is reporting every instance when my son smokes "drugs" at his bedroom window. He says he won't stop until my son is arrested, or it stops.
Although my son smokes tobacco in his bedroom, he's not in the habit of smoking "drugs" (whatever this person means by "drugs") and he has told the neighbour this. I have asked the people who live in the house between mine and this person's, and they say they aren't aware of any problem.
This is getting very stressful since my son has bent over backwards to avoid offending this neighbour. Since the first time this person came to the door, my son has ceased to smoke in his bedroom at all. Although it seems unlikely, with the distance involved, and a house in between our properties, this man claims that my son's smoke is wafting into his young child's bedroom window, so my son has taken to smoking in the garden on the far side of our house, so that there are two, two-storey two buildings between our house and the neighbour's. If the weather is bad, he goes into our garage and shuts the door to smoke there.
Since my son is doing nothing wrong but has nevertheless tried to do the neighbourly thing by smoking (his tobacco) in places where it's even more unlikely than before than to affect the neighbour, I don't know what more we can do about this. My son can't "stop" what he's not doing in the first place, and I don't like being threatened that this person is going to have my son arrested, or the idea that he's invading my son's and my privacy, by watching from his garden to see what we're doing in our own first-floor bedrooms at the rear of the house.
Is there anything we can do to put a stop to this, without making things even worse?
