  • Ford warranty

    Good morning,
I hope I’m posting in the right place to get some sound advice ASAP
    Right, here goes:
My husband runs his own horticulture business and relies heavily on his Ford Ranger Wiltrak as it can and needs to tow a 3.5 ton trailer. A few years back his Ranger was just 6 months out of warranty when the engine blew and it cost him £7000+ to fix. He was not too happy but sucked it up as there was not much he could do about it. At the time, Ford gave him a like for like hire vehicle which they paid for. The hire car was sorted out incredibly quickly as in a day or two.
Fast forward a couple of years and he has a new Ford Ranger still under warranty (it’s only 18 month old and warranty is 3yrs) and the exact same thing happened on the weekend. Coming back from a delivery and bang, we are sat on the side of the motor way waiting for AA. As it was a weekend, we just recovered to car to our business premises so that we could have it somewhere safe. Come Monday morning, Ford said it was our job to get the vehicle to a Ford approved service centre, so we did. They were happy with that. The said dealer can only fit the Ranger in at the end of the month (2 weeks) before they even start fixing the vehicle. The last one took months. We are stuck. We do not have another vehicle that we can use to tow a 3.5 ton trailer, it’s our busiest part of our season and we are losing money hand over foot. Ford has said they have approved a like for like vehicle with Ford rental. They then say that if the issue with our car does not fall under their warranty plan, we will have to pay for the vehicle hire........ we don’t know what to do. It took months the last time and could cost thousands of pounds to rent. They seem to be looking for any out they can, we did not have this issue years back when we had the trouble. We are stuck. When do we turn, who can help? Please, any actual advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Having had a look round, and having seen some shocking reviews about Ford I would consider having an independent engineer report on the vehicle.
Firstly the delay is unacceptable, especially with the threat of having to pay for a hire car for the period of a delay caused by their poor service.
Secondly Ford have an interest in finding the problem was caused by something not covered by the warranty.
Thirdly you might still have a case for rejecting the vehicle.
To be successful you would need to show it was unsatisfactory when delivered.
As it has only lasted 18 months you are halfway there.

A particularly telling review from: https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/ford

“Ford continued to delay a warranty repair on my car for months. Until coincidentally, I managed to get hold of an internal email from Ford showing that she was deliberately opposing the repair.
The internal document outlines Ford's policy to postpone warranty repairs for as long as possible, along with a list of possible excuses for their dealers.
Only after the intervention of a lawyer was Ford willing to repair my car. Customer service 0/10 - so far my worst experience with a company ever.
