  • Ban for life

Last year I was banned from Sainsbury’s for life over some batteries! Paid for my shopping and batteries fell down inbetween the bags! Long story short, alarms went off, I went in, manager called blah blah I paid for the goods got issued a ban, details and photos taken!

how do they enforce the ban? Do they use facial recognition? I don’t often need Sainsbury’s but they do have an Argos and a chemist which is well stocked!

I just curious if they use a system that recognised you, and if so how long are you a suspect of interest for? I get the ban is for life but if you do not go back in and no further incidents occur is your info wiped?

I don’t plan on going back but incase I needed to? I live rural so sometimes it’s a right pain from being banned!

    Thanks

The only real way to find out is to go back in and see what happens.
If they pick you out, they might be using facial recognition or it might be just that someone recognised you.

If you do go back in and are recognised , all they can do is ask you to leave and if you refuse they can use sufficient force to eject you.
If however whilst there you attempted to steal, you could be charged with robbery, a more serious charge than theft

You have been issued an exclusion order, they normally last twelve months to a maximum three years.

I have never known one last for life.

They could be using a facial recognition system which they are perfectly entitled to do or they could just have distributed your image to all interested parties.

Would it be possible to attach the document here? Blanking out identifying features.

Should you return it will be classed as a trespass and as already stated they can only ask you to leave, if you refuse you can be arrested.

Trespass alone carries no penalty unless it is accompanied by an aggravating factor such as theft or anti-social behaviour.
