  • Home Flooded Three Times.

Hi, for some time I've been having some problems with Anglian Water who as a big company are using there power to get rid of complaint and not take responsibility. Basically having lived in the same home for 26 years we have experienced 3 major floods to our property. The first was in 2006 and we put it down to weather conditions as we were told that was the problem and not because of blocked drains etc at the time however it gave us an increase year after that on our insurance policy. Then in 2012 the same happened again but this was a result of a burst water main 200 yards up the road from us, however the water flow was the same going across gardens and into our property. The water didn't go into the drains as they are either blocked or bubbling back out. Anglian Water told us to claim on our own insurance and simply gave us a leaflet with a number on it. Again our premiums increased dramatically it also took 18months to get our home lovable again due to problem after problem with the insurance company and builders. Then in 2018 the same happened this time much much worse and we were on holiday at the time returning a week later.

Anyway since 2016 I have been fighting Anglian Water through CCWater, WATRS and OFWat. However as much as these companies have sen the problem they have no powers to enforce or issue compensation to us. We have both written, and voice recordings from Anglian Water which state that their stance is deniability and that no consumer case has been won against them through the channels mentions. We have photographs and lots of evidence of blocked drainage systems, flooding and a concrete block which was actually constructed and blocked the main drainage pipe just before I home hence why all the flooding happens. This has since been removed as has 10tonne of since and dumped concrete further down the line.

I am trying to take legal action against Anglian Water but cannot fine a solicitor who deals with their kind of thing as they are 100% at fault and have told me to go through their solicitor. I cannot get help from Citizens advice either as you can only see a solicitor once and they lost the details of once I saw in 2016 who told me to go through the other routes first.

Any assistance would be most helpful. Thanks you.

    Really feel for you.

The only suggestions I can make are to contact your M.P and try to get one of the national papers interested. Big companies should not be allowed to intimidate.
Obviously you don't want to risk significant legal cost. Just thought about trying your regional t.v company and local radio. Nobody wants had publicity. Good luck.

Thanks, one of our MP's (Lib Dems) was involved but they were more interested in their own box ticking than helping resolve the issue, however they did arrange a residents meeting for the other end of Town which I recorded but AW back tracked on what they said during the meeting. Anyway I'll try another MP although it the legal route I was advised to go via CCWater and OFWat as I have a case but they have no powers.
