  • No Running Water Due to building Work

    Hi all, seasons greetings.
Sorry to land this on you but I'm in desperate need of a bit of advice. We're having our entire building refurbed and about 6 weeks ago the builders shut down our communal water system to replace the ancient pipework in the common areas. Since then I have had no hot/cold running water in my kitchen and a couple of other flats have reported the same problem. The bathroom hot/cold is on a separate feed and runs ok, but the bathroom cold water feed is from a tank on the roof, so not potable. There were also previous issues with the cold feed to the kitchen after a flat on a floor above had the feed shut off for works back in Sept this year, it's never been back to normal since that shutdown, and now its much worse. This weekend my washing machine has been flashing up error messages to tell me that its timing out because there's insufficient water pressure and it isn't filling fast enough, so I also cannot wash clothes. The building manager and RTM Co board were advised on both issues.

On Friday last I was advised that the builders are finishing for the year and wont be back until January. I've emailed the Managing agent and received an out-of-office reply telling me the same and my email to the RTM board was met with quite a hostile, defensive attitude.

I'm worried that I'll have to spend Christmas in a home with no running drinking water, no washing up facilities, no washing machine and in tier 4 lockdown, so I'm not keen to congregate with people outside my social bubble in a launderette.

I've looked into Airbnb as a short term fix, but I'm not really sure if thats allowed or if I should also be out of pocket due to circumstances beyond my control.
Thank you kindly for any advice.

Hi, apologies for bumping this after only 36hrs but time is running out.

Apparently someone from the building contractor attended today but there's no improvement.
Would anyone be able to take a look and let me know what my rights are. Thank you kindly.
