For many years I cared for and tended to my mums needs during several chronic illnesses and then a stroke. I stepped away from this role two years ago, due to lack of or no support from siblings, and my mum’s non concordance with her care, became a strain on our close relationship.
Since then she lost capacity, my siblings have power over her care and finance. I haven’t heard for over a year anything about my mum. Flowers. Cards etc not responded to. Recently several times, nurses/SALT have contacted me as unable to get hold of my siblings. I worried about this and contacted my mum’s local police with a welfare concern, they investigated and spoke to my brother (who doesn’t speak to me) and reassured me that my mum was fine with social care visits but nothing to worry about.
I got a call last week from district nurse who hadn’t been able to contact my brother. Actually she has a pressure sore, is at end of life stage. The public guardian office have reported my brother to safeguarding for not being contactable by health professionals.
However the care care company have been obstructive, refusing to tell me the time they visit my mum, so that I can enter with the carers. I live 150 miles away by train.
My brother has mental health issues and is unreliable. My mum wanted family with her and her favourite music played. I know these things, my siblings don’t.
