Trying to understand the following in a will for a friend who is an executor "I gift to my grandchildren £*** who survive me and attains 18 years of age"

What does this mean of they are not 18 at the time of death?

I would sugget gift to be given when they reach 18 years of age and held in trust until such time.

But the gift would fail if the beneficiary died before his/her18th birthday.
