  • Apple iMac botched repair

    Hi Everyone,

My 2012 iMac desktop computer recently developed a fault. I took it to a local computer repair shop and they diagnosed an operating system fault and charged £245 to reload the operating system and install a new SSD hard drive which I was informed was ideally needed to run the newer operating system.
Once the repair had been carried out, I got the computer home only to find the original fault occured again. I took the computer back to the shop, only to be told that the fault was now believed to be the motherboard and integrated graphics card and a refurbished part repair would be £300.

Due to the age of the computer I declined to have the repair done using a refurb part and instead opted to buy a replacement machine with the intention of selling the old one for spares. I asked the repair shop to remove the SSD hard drive and reinstall the original hard drive which was never faulty, as the new drive was useless to me after not fixing the initial problem.

The repair shop have emailed me today to say that whilst removing the new SSD drive and refitting the original HDD drive, they have cracked the iMac screen. As things stand I am £245 out of pocket and now have a computer in a worse condition than it was given to the repair shop. What are my rights if any with this?

    Thanks in advance
