Hi,
I have had this credit card account with HSBC for nearly 30 years in the past 20 years I have never missed a repayment, Today the bank emailed me asking me to call them. I did so and was told I'm in default and this could affect my credit rating unless I paid them £400. It seems the problem is that I took a 3 month payment holiday, where the bank charged interest only. I haven't used the card for the past 6 months. The interest they charged over the 3 months pushed my account over my limit. I started my payments again 2 months ago.
They also charged me £12 unauthorised overdrawn. I have to call them back tomorrow, to either pay back the £400 or take a loan to pay off the whole amount. I'm a pensioner I cannot afford to pay out that much. I would like to continue paying my monthly payment which I budgeted for and can afford.
I don't want or need a loan, I don't want another payment plan, do you think I will have to pay the 400 back Ideally I want to keep my repayments but I'm worried they will demand more money from me. It's a disgrace they treat a long term customer like this, they can see I've never missed a payment or been overdrawn. They mentioned it can affect my credit rating if I don't comply with the offers they made to me.
Do I have to pay the 400 back? after all, they agreed to payment holiday, and I haven't used the card at all for more than 6 months. I'm not going to sleep tonight with worry.
