  • Banned from b and q

    HI,

I was shopping in a b and q store when I accidentally forgot I put a doorbell ontop of my sons pushchair whilst sorting him out as he had spilt his drink all over himself. He was very upset which in turn put me in a fluster and i just wanted to get out of the shop.

This is when I realised I'd forgotten about the doorbell and stopped by security of course banning me taking my id but no police was called. I explained it was a genuine mistake, I was mortified but they weren't bothered.

Since then I've recieved a civil recovery letter for just over £85 apparently to cover their expenses.

Is this something I need to pay by law or worry about? They also didn't make me aware or state on the letter given on the day how long the ban was for and I never asked as I was so embarrassed. Would I be able to re enter a different b and q store or is it not worth the risk? I couldn't bare the embarrassment of being noticed and asked to leave.

Hoping someone on here can advise me as ive read similar threads.

    Thank you all in advance!

If you have read previous threads you will know the advice is to ignore all un civil recovery letters as they have no legal basis whatever.

Regarding the ban, if you ignore it and you are seen all they can do is request you leave.
If you refuse they could use sufficient force to eject you.

If whilst banned you should (and I am not suggesting you will!) steal you could be charged with burglary.

I don't know if B&Q circulate details, nor if they use facial recognition cameras.
I can only advise that if you do enter their stores again, just take care.

Thank you. It was myself that posted above I have now made an account.
I would never ever think of stealing I was so embarrassed with what happened and it was completely un intentional. I'm that embarrassed I darent even tell my partner whats happened.

The only reason I asked about visiting another store was incase he wants to go one weekend as he is carrying out decorating at the moment I wouldn't know what to say to get out of going.

Thank you very much for your advice. I never even knew that facial recognition cameras were a thing so thank you for that! I think I definitely darent ever enter a b and q again. Im just unsure how long the ban was for which is confusing.

If it was me, I would probably ignore the ban and just avoid the store where they treated you unjustly for a few months

You were looking after a small child who had become distressed.
You were distracted and forgot about an item.

That is not theft and is no reason for them to treat you as if it was.
It is unacceptable behaviour on their part.

You are going to receive a series of begging letters from civil recovery.
It will be a lot less stressful for you if your partner is aware of the injustice done to you.
Will he not support you if you tell him?... you have done nothing to be ashamed of or to be embarrassed about

Thank you for your reply, I shall avoid the store I never personally have much reason to go there and unfortunately the time I did this had to happen.

they could see how sorry and embarrassed I was i explained it and the security guard said some managers won't let things drop as people make up excuses all of the time which I said i understand that people will lie and say they forgot about an item but I genuinely did. I guess others lies make us all out to be that way.

Thank you, I shall ignore the letters and hope they eventually stop. Do you know if there is any way the letters can impact your credit file etc in any way?

I believe he would support me yes I just feel with how embarrassed I am about it I don't want to tell anybody and just forget about it. Probably easier to tell him but at this moment in time I cant bare to have anyone think bad of me for what happened. I feel awful for doing it and I feel ill just get the whole id never forget to pay for something conversation.

You haven't said which company has written to you, but if it is RLP they normally send about 6 letters (you can read them here: https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...rs-rlp-and-dwf)

They have no impact on your credit reports, or any impact at all on your life unless you allow them to worry you.
No one should think bad of you for making a mistake ..... and the person who says " id never forget to pay for something" has never gone shopping with a fractious child!

Could somebody please advise.. i have today recieved a further letter from CRS stating letter before action. Am I still to ignore this and not pay? I have been going out of my mind with worry. Of course it all is worded with 'consider' and 'may' I would just like to know as the others were all headed notice of civil claim as apose to letter before action and its made me feel unsettled.

No, a letter before action must not be ignored. Post up the letter, suitably redacted.

what are they stating is the reason for the claim?

have a read about a similar case https://legalbeagles.info/civil-reco...s-of-hearings/ ,the judge effectively threw out the case.

If CRS have called the letter a Letter Before Action, then we need to know what they are up to. Please redact your personal details from the letter and upload it to your next post.
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Fifty years ago I used to regularly visit a small shop near work. I nearly always included a couple of packets of extra strong mints. This lunch break I was carrying quite a few things and for convenience put the mints in my pocket. A couple of minutes after paying for what I was carrying and leaving the shop I put my hand in my pocket. Horror forgotten mints ! I rushed back and explained. They laughed and thanked me.
You have been badly treated. Banned ? I couldn't imagine wanting to go there again.
Tell your partner and deal with it together. I think that's what partners are for.
