  • Terrorism act 2000

Question, section 43 of this act gives the police to search people if the have " reasonable suspicion " they may be involved in terrorism, there is no definition of what is or is not a terrorist activity, the police have used this act to stop and search people filming police stations, industrial estates , shopping centres and military bases from public pavements and areas, what do you think about this and the interpretation of " reasonable " here ?

Taking into account that filming anything you can see in public is a lawful activity in itself.

More accurately: s.43 of the 2000 Act allows me to stop and search anyone I reasonable suspect to be a terrorist for anything that may constitute evidence that he is a terrorist, and s.40 gives a clear and unambiguous definition of a terrorist.

I have no idea how other officers may have formed their reasonable suspicion to use their s.43 powers once they have taken in to account all the informtion available to them at the relevant time. Have you asked them?

So how are the two sides in this going to reach a solution, one side says its their right to film a police station anytime they like without being stopped or searched and the other says that's OK you can film but we will use the terrorism act to search you .
