  • Hello seeking help with a default date please

Hi, I came across the site on a search after finding a discrepancy with my credit report. I wanted to ask if a debt collection company should use the same default date as the creditor recorded it on file.

I have two defaults on my account for one debt. The debt with the creditor is 6 years old (settled account) and it appears that they sold this on near to the 6th year to Cabot. A delinquent date is showing as August 1914 (incorrect date). The default date on the creditors entry is June 2014(correct date) Cabot have duplicated the information however put the default date as August 2018 (incorrect date). I wonder how I stand with this and how and if I should challenge them. I did have communication with Lowell in 2018 however they did not pursue the debt. No payment has been made to them in over 6 years.

The reason for the debt was due to a bank error on a current account switch, the error meant that my registration to practice was not paid and I therefore could not work as a support worker at the time, this meant that I had no income. Hence the long delay. The error was not upheld in a complaint but I have a letter of comfort from the bank.

The outcome that I am hoping for is for the default to incorrectly recorded and be removed but I’m not sure what to do.

I hope that makes sense and thanks in advance
