I am 70, retired, in good health and living in my home with an extra bedroom that over the last few years, I've rented to people in need. Recently I had a person getting Chemo who stayed with me on the weeks he wasn't in the hospital and just vomited and recovered and then went back and did it again over and over for six months. I had a Mom with kids that were being abused where she lived. So she stayed with me while she was finding her own place. And a recovering alcoholic that eventually got a car and and job and eventually went back to work.
Now I have a 55 year old female who was evicted by her mother (probably because the mother couldn't deal with her mental disabilities, dyslexia, former brain injuries, etc.) Now at my place she sees MY ROOM as her final destination and doesn't plan to leave. I took her in to help her FIND HOUSING on a permanent basis but I can't get her to cooperate with me in getting her to the Housing Authority, Case Managers and Medical Specialists in my city that could help her.
I don't really want to Evict her because she's not capable of handling court proceedings etc. and it will make her eventually securing a place much more problematic with that on her record.
And while Covid has made the eviction issue a little problematic for the normal Landlord with apartment rentals, I believe I'm within my rights to put her on the street but I'm looking for legal help and direction (like intervention options) to help her move forward, find housing and live independently.
