We have lived in our house for 21 years. At the rear there is an alleyway that passes my house and 2 more before turning right to access two more rear entrances. My newish neighbours on the other side of the RoW are being difficult as, they say it's their land and only the two houses at the far end of the 'L' can use the alley. All three of the other houses, are being told we cannot continue using it. It all started when I reinstated a gate that I had when I first moved in (for easier access now that I am physically impaired and no longer wish to use the steps to the other gate. We have used the alley all the time without trouble. We've never ever even discussed the RoW, with previous owners. All three house which are being refused have a Right of Way at the rear covered in our Title Deeds. Even the neighbours have it in theirs but seem to not know what it means. (It's marked in Land Registry brown to denote a RoW)
They have put up a gate at our end and have now built a, storage shed that takes up over half the width of the path which means we can no longer leave 2x2 bins out which have been there for years. Indeed, the rickety old gate that I had replaced 15 years ago must have been there 40 or 50 years ago. Our houses date from the 1830s. The new neighbours from 1973ish.
I don't know what to do to convince them that all 5 houses are entitled to use of the, Right of Way. Any advice would be lovely
