Newbie - debt financial abuse advice needed please.

Hello, I'm in a financially abusive (amongst many things) marriage, I have limited access to money. Around 20 years ago I had a visa card in my name, it's the only thing in my name. The house of anything of value, is in my husbands name. The debt is in mine, and I'm unaware of how much money we have or don't.

A couple of years ago we had financial issues, so I was told, and we ended up maxing out the Visa card in my name of course. £17,000 in debt i ended up with. 2.5 years ago he decided we Wasn't going to pay it, told me as it's unsecured nothing could be done about it, so to not worry as in 6 years it will be wiped off my record. Not a payment since has been made, I've been getting mail and txt from Robsons often, they pass me around from company to company, but so far that's all that's happened.

I'm trying to find a way out of my marriage, I have chronic illness etc, and no money at all, so there's no way I'm going to be able to afford this debt, and it's worrying me sick.

Can anyone help? I was reading something about asking for the original agreement, as a way to clear the debt but I have no idea how to go about it or even if I can, or the implications this may have?

Hi - It would be helpful to know exactly who owns this debt now. Robinson Way? You should have received an assignment notice, please have a look through your paperwork and try to find out who actually owns it.
How far have you got with your marriage discussions? Are you getting any support from any domestic violence charities local to you. It would be very wise to arrange to have a chat with a support network, not least so that when we come to challenge this account, you can prove the legitimacy of the situation by your engagement with DV organisations.
