I purchased a Hyundai i800 at the end of February. I discovered that the air-conditioning was not working and contacted the dealer. After several attempts they replied and asked me to get a quote which I did from my (trusted) local garage. They told me the vacuum test was fine but that a joint at the end of the long pipe under the car was not holding pressure. Their quote was for £847 (the part is £566 and has to come from Hyundai). A second company agreed with this price and diagnosis stating it was pointless to try and replace the part.*
I informed the dealer of this and got a text reply that they would sort it after lock-down. I noticed that they were now selling again via Auto Trader and emailed again. No reply. I sent text messages - no reply. I rang up and explained the situation and that, in addition, the handbrake was not holding the car and that it nearly ran away down a hill (I have started to use a brick to hold it). The person on the phone said "I'll get the boss" and put the phone down on me.*
I have just had the car back from my local garage (who have, again, not charged me for diagnosis). I am told it needs brake shoes, pads, hand brake cables and a new rear mechanism as one side is seized and would fail the MOT. They are quoting £353 to put it right and have advised not to drive it too much.
I have put 2500 miles on the car since I bought it in February and am aware it's still within 6 months. I purchased it outright on Barclaycard and am going to launch a section 75 claim against them rather than start legal action. I wouldn't trust the dealer to fix it now anyway and I am fed up of chasing them and getting empty promises. I have phone call logs, emails from the dealer and text messages from them saying they would "sort it out". I also have the 2 quotes to fix the car.*
My question is have I missed anything out? I am told I cannot drive long distance due to the state of the rear pads and my garage said any dealer who did a proper PDI would have seen these faults. Plus, Wales is still limited to 5-mile journeys - though my garage is fully open and willing to repair it.*
The dealer has excellent reviews on Autotrader hence the reason I used it but its 120 miles away (They delivered the car to me).
I have used section 75 four years ago after buying a car on Barclay card and it turning out to have a major fault. This was successful but took some time. I would not have purchased an MPV with no air con, because its a mobile greenhouse, and its only because I parked on a hill last week that I realised the parking brake is useless.
I would appreciate your advice.
