I have been advised to pay my brother off for an amount of 10% from my parents estate. *I was the sole beneficiary. I looked after and cared for my parents until their death. My brother is not in this country and has not seen them for 15 years. *They did not speak due to an argument. He contested the will, firstly with lack of testament then coercion. Both were proved invalid. So now he’s going down the inheritance act route. The 10% amounts to 25000 pounds. However it’s not so much the money as the awful things he said about my parents and me. He is financially stable, married has a good job, and has shown no proof of income. He went via a solicitor with a no win no fee. I feel like this is such an easy route for any unrest in the family to just get a solicitor, to see what you can get out of it. Do I just pay ? To get rid of him or do I fight ? And why is it so easy to get something ?*
