  • cottage rental let down

Paid to hire a cottage for a week in April, obviously couldn't go but I had taken out ins. Rental co. returned majority of charge and would give me a credit for future years. Ins. co. said not liable for remainder as I had a credit for future years. Where's the safety and security in Ins. in that?*

So did you accept the offer of a credit for future years?
If so and the insurers also* pay you, you will have received double indemnity.

If you did not accept the credit for future years, you should have pursued the rental company for the balance.
If they were unable to pay it, or just refused you could then claim against the insurers.

Thanks for that, wouldn't have taken up the offer so will now decline and either seek balance from Sykes or the Ins. Co.**
