  • Council Tax

    Really need urgent advice

So I have a property and I am a full time student. I am except from council tax.

I will be moving into a 3 bedroom property with my uncle who is disabled and my sister who I's a carer for my uncle.* I still want to keep my exception on the current property until it sells (may take 3 months)

Do I a) transfer my name out rightly to the new property i am moving into but will i still be except for council tax.

    B) apply for council under my uncle name* it still keep the council tax on my name on the other property

    C) be excepmt for both properties*

    im confused. Please advice further*
What do I do I'm confused*

To answer your question C) You can only get the exemption for the dwelling you occupy.

The Class N exemption requires you to be in occupation of the property, you won't be able to claim that.

The alternative exemption for students, the Class K, should apply for you. The Class K is very rarely used - in 2 decades of council tax I can probably count in the single digits how many times I've seen it.

      B) apply for council under my uncle name it still keep the council tax on my name on the other property
It has to remain under your name as you stay liable as the owner - liability and having a charge to pay are two different issues.
