I have a strong feeling that Asda wanted to bun me for a*
last few years .....Having been an Asda customer for 25 years, I never had any issues with anybody while I was “blending with the crowd by outlook”. Everything has dramatically changed in the last few years when I stopped taking my bike helmet off in store. Suddenly I started experiencing unpleasant looks and attitudes from Asda colleagues.*
Being Scandinavian born, I was the only lady wearing a bike helmet in the shop. To give you a brief idea of what I had to experience during my dreadful shopping, I will mention just a few examples. Once, when I was entering the shop with my son, an elderly bald trolley guy (I think named Jerry) started shouting in an abusive , loud manner at me for no reason at all on the store entrance that I am a “dodgy scammer and that I should be banned from the shop and never allowed in” ! Me and my son were shocked, I was in tears in front of many people who were advising me to call the police. I addressed that shockingly stressful issue to the store and was reassured that I will get a response back but nobody ever responded. Soon after, a security guy stopped me on the entrance and started searching my rucksack saying that I was not allowed to take any fruit with me from home in a rucksack to Asda. I had a pre prepared pack of fruit from Sainsbury’s. This unpleasant, stressful conversation lasted for 25 minutes again in front of many surprised people and when I finally asked him to invite the Manager , the security guy refused, telling me that I am not allowed to see a manager and didn’t let me to the the shop. Another time I took a banana out of my bag with Sainsbury’s packaging that I took from home to eat while I was waiting in a long queue to pay. Somebody called for a security guy and I was warned again by him that I am not allowed to do that and that I will be banned.*
On another occasion when I approached a customer service assistant showing two coupons from the Princess Tuna website asking if Asda sells that item, the colleague snatched one of the coupons from my hand and refused to give it back to me ,saying that I am not allowed to have two , even though one of them belonged to my daughter which was clearly indicated on the coupon. The next day I came back with my daughter being convinced that she was breaking the law but no traces of that coupon to be found. During my recent shoppings in February, I was going to pay for five different packs of prepackaged fruits, bread rolls and salads , when shop colleagues called for security again, taking some of the packages away from me, even though they were all different items. During my visit On the 3rd of May, I noticed that a colleague named Louise was doing a chilled department reduction and I decided to wait on a 2 metres distance like some other customers. Being a Medic, I was wearing a protective face mask. I was surprised to see that some Asda colleagues were relatively braking the distancing rules by coming right to Louise’s face and taking reduced products for themselves during their shift. Another colleague was waiting and taking from Louise’s hands multiple reduced items without any distance at all. Some customers were also taking reduced items from the shelf while Louise was still doing the reduction. I was respectfully waiting on a 2 metres distance when she finish. A Security guy didn’t tell anything to anybody about their law-breaking behaviour. Surprisingly he said only to me that I cannot stay in one place and that I must keep moving while everybody was waiting. That was the first time I ever heard that customer can not stay on one place but must keep moving . I listened to him and I moved on. He also ordered me that I must leave the shop as he doesn’t like the way I shop ... When I asked to explain the reason, he couldn’t explain. When I asked the gentleman manager why I was not allowed to do shopping, he looked surprised and couldn’t explain the reason either. Because there was no reason. When I picked up an item to read if any allergic ingredients were included, another security guy told me that I am not allowed to touch the products. I respectfully listened again and had to read the info of the product from the distance. During my waiting, I witnessed a few Asda colleagues were braking repetitively the shopping rules, same as some customers ,but none of them got any warnings, only me. Other customers were waiting for Louise to finish the reduction but none of them were told that they are not allowed to wait , only me. Everybody were touching the products but once again only I was told that I am not allowed to touch any items. When I was leaving the shop I was told by security that I WAS BANNED. I haven’t done anything wrong and I wanted to speak to a manager but was not given a chance. When I asked to check CCTV to prove to me what have I done wrong , that was rejected. When I mentioned that it was not me who was braking the rules but their colleagues I was again told I was BANNED. When I mentioned regarding complaint I was advised to do it by phone to a manager, despite knowing that nobody pick up telephone now.I know that I was the only one not British born at that time and place and I felt like it was racial abuse aimed only at me .I sincerely hope that you will check CCTV and help me to clarify the stressful issues and humiliations that I have been experiencing for the last few years. I hope that this matter will be resolved without Court involvement or press. For CCTV records please refer to the date of 3 May just before 2 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After sending this email to Roger Burlney CEO Asda , I have received reply from Alistar*
Hi.*
Thank you for your patience while I investigate your recent case.
I’ve spoken at length with the Asda store and, regrettably, I must inform you that the store will not be lifting the ban on this occasion. I can confirm that all relevant colleagues have been interviewed and the store’s investigations have been thorough and in line with procedures.
I understand this will come as a disappointment and banning customers is always a last resort and this decision has been made after very careful consideration. The store do feel, however, that this is the appropriate course of action.
If you wish to appeal the ban, you can do so by writing to the General Store Manager, however I’m unable to advise as to any potential outcome.
Kind regards,
