Hi all!**I would like to share my case and see if anyone has any advice on what to do regarding my situation. I am a full-time permanent employee in the pharmacy industry. Back in March, I went on holiday to Tarragona (Spain) to visit my family (I hold a Spanish passport). Whilst I was there, the Spanish Government locked down the entire country and my return flight to the UK was cancelled and given an alternative flight date.*
I informed my manager and explained the situation. He said he would record my absence as unpaid but permitted leave until I could get back to the UK. However, the new flight was also cancelled and rescheduled for another day, which was also cancelled. As it stands, the government plans not to open borders until at least June. All flights I am given are later on cancelled; I am unable to take any flight. I am being paid nothing, yet I still have to pay for my rent, bills, council tax for the flat in the UK. I explained this situation to my manager and said if I could be furloughed or for any other alternatives, as I shall soon run out of my savings. He said I could not be furloughed as company policy doesn't permit it for pharmacy colleagues. I understand this, but this is a different scenario. I don't know what else I can do in terms of rights at work or where I can ask for further advice as my manager just told me that he can't do anything else for me. Many thanks. Ana.*
