  • HR1 form

    Hi,
I am enquiring on behalf of a friend. She has been married to her husband for a few years. They live in the house that they bought together, but at the time of buying the house she was not working so her husband had to apply for the mortgage in his name only. They both put the same amount of money into the house (they were not married at the time, and have lived in the house for 5 years). She is concerned that although they are married, her name is not on the title deeds with the Land Registry. She has been told that she needs to fill out an HR1 form and send it to the Land Registry. Firstly, is anyone able to tell me what the cost to do this would be (without using a solicitor)? Secondly, if the LR then write to her husband and he refuses to add her name, where does she stand legally if they were ever to separate/divorce. They have wills in place leaving the house to each other if they were to die. My friend has children (two of these live in the house) and her husband does not have any.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
