My son has been charged with dangerous driving and failure to provide a specimen. He has a court date and would like to plead guilty before the date. He knows he has to attend court however he bitterly regrets his actions and wants to own up. How does he do this and is it advisable? He was over the limit and since then has attended counselling and is now on medication for depression. Should he disclose this in a letter? Thanks

IMO he needs more than a letter.
As you say he will attend court and is looking at a substantial penalty.
From the little you tell us it is not possible to suggest any mitigation plea that might be available to him.
I suggest at least consult a specialist solicitor to see how best to conduct himself and how to present his case.
