I work for a small company, with only 4 members of staff. The owner is very overbearing and can be very demanding, rude as well as undermining all staff.
I have been with the company for around 5 years and am getting very fed up of their mood swings, shouting, ignoring staff and making sure that we all conform to their way. I would like to know my rights if I decide to leave the job with immediate effect, rather than giving 4 weeks notice. (This would really be worst case sceario). I have a contract that I signed when I began the company. The only difference is that my rate of pay went up as well as my hours and I never had my contract updated, is this still binding?
If I do decide to quit is the employer able to stop me receiving my salary? For example if I leave midway during the month how can I guarantee that I will be paid my dues? Am I able to write an email stating why I decided to leave and how unbearable the office is, possibly copying in their accountant, or someone independent as proof?
The aim is to give 1 month's notice, but I am still looking for other employment and would ideally need a reference.
But generally, are there any options in my favour if I decide to pack it in and just leave as this is affecting my wellbeing.
Thanks a lot
