  • bank incorrect default by 6 years - 2008 default still on account in 2020

Following redundancy in 2008 II fell into arrears on a £25,000 loan with a high street bank. All my other accounts have been kept in good order. while I have struggled for finance over the years a recent issue has arisen where our landlord has suddenly announced he is selling the house and giving us first option.
Upon obtaining my credit report I have found that the bank issued a default for my account 6 years later in 2014 which is still showing on my account now, 2020 seriously hindering if not blocking my ability to get this vital mortgage 11 years on. - How do I get them to remove all this quickly and am I entitled to compensation for damaged credit for an additional 5+ years
