5 year old parking fine charge - threat of court action from Gladstones Solicitors

I have received a letter from Gladstone's saying that I owe £1,200 from 6 parking fines I ignored over 5 years ago.*
Should I continue to ignore this or get in touch to arrange a settlement?*
Please advise the best way to proceed... that is just so much to pay and I simply can't afford that.*
