  • British Gas destroyed my homr

    Hi,*
I wondered if I could get some advice please. I have a homecare plan with British Gas. On 9th Sept, I had an engineer out as I had very minor water spot on my ceiling. This was dyno Rod.*He found the fault was to do with my sensor in tank and fixed it and turned the water back on. However when he was finishing off he accidentally broke. Pipe in my airing cupboard and water fell through my ceiling in my living room and kitchen. He then let the whole tank empty through my ceilings. It was an absolute disaster zone. After about 30 minutes the water stopped. He said he broke a pipe and showed it to me. And left. My house was destroyed. Before he left I pointed out the water had come through my light fitting and asked what I should do. He said it would be dried out in 2 hours!!!!! I told my son under no circumstances to touch the light switch until I got an electrician out. The next day all my electrics blew. Got a BG electrician out, to said my wall sockets were filled with water and changed it and said the light fitting was dangerous and changed it. He told me to put heating on and that I could plug my cooker back in. He left. As soon as the heating was on there was smoke from the boiler and electrics blew again when cooker was plugged in. The electrician was only outside and he came back. He found that the water was ingrained into my cooker and it was broken and for safety he turns all my gas off and I needed a gas engineer. He came out a couple days later. He asked what the problem was, he then said it would be the floor that's broken and that I would need a new boiler. But he refused to look at it, he said it would definitely be it. My ex husband was around and told him he has to actually look at the boiler before making this assumption. He begrudgingly did this and said the floo was fine and it was just the fibre glass drying. He then told me to make a claim through my hse insurance and that BG would pay excess. I said I wasn't gonna do that as it would my me have Hugh premium for 5 years. Then he said to get dehumidifiers from insurer. Again I said this would be starting a claim. I said surely BG or dynorod should be providing dehumidifiers. He never answered this. Dynorod starting looking to my complaint. I then foukd the original dynorod engineer had broken my bath taps in his attempt to empty the tank quicker. An engineer was sent out and said he'd have to break my bath panel. He did and the tap is still broken. At this point I am literally crying. Everything is going wrong and no one to share the burden as I live alone with my son.*
dynorod asked me to get quotes for new cooker and repair works which included, repair both ceilings, redecorate bother kitchen and living room, flooring and a cooker. Which I did. Then there was nothing. No contact and after 2 weeks of chasing dynorod came back to me saying this has to go through their insurers, Centrica. Now by the time centrica send out their construction Company it is 6 week since the water damage. They come in and checked the walls, floors and ceiling and it was absolutely saturated with water and that I would need. 3 dehumidifiers for potentially 5 weeks. I hope can imagine that I was fuming as 6 weeks past and now the drying is only starting. They were so loud, that we had to live upstairs.*
Anyway, as of last week all decorating, flooring is done, new cooker in and electricity and food refund. It now goes back to BG to deal with compensation. I got a call yesterday and they offered me £50 credit in my homecare plan. I was gobsmacked and offended. Obviously I refused. I asked her if she'd read my email. She said she would look at it again call me back. She called me back today offering me £200. I still feel insulated by this as, they gave such terrible service and dangerous advice. The plumber said it was fine to turn on light after 2 hours and the engineer refusing to look at a boiler and ready to condemn it. So I told her I needed to seek advice as I have no idea what the figure I should be looking at. I don't want to be taken for a ride, but equally I don't want to be greedy. I've lived in hell for 4 months. I was wondering if anyone had advice... Thank you in advance. Suz

Wow, i had my trouble with builders but that is taking it all to a new level.

So they have reimbursed for everything and you didn't claim through your insurance?
