    Hi. I'm in desperate need of advice and help. I have had a PayPal account for some years. Recently the option of Pay after delivery has become available to me. Initially I thought I could manage this and pay after the 14 days but it has gotten out of control. I have now racked up around £600 in purchases. I have bipolar disorder and a shopping addiction. The first payment is due tomorrow and I do not have any money in my account or my backup account and although I will have some money from my disability benefits I will not be able to pay this money for a long time. My questions are...What will happen? Have I committed fraud knowing after I started making purchases I would not have the funds even though I convinced myself at the time that it would be ok? I made the purchases over a 14 day period and it was like I had totally lost control and couldn't stop spending money I didn't have. I feel like I have come down now from a massive high and now need to deal with the consequences. Please any advice would be appreciated. I know I have done a bad thing.

    Under the Consumer Contracts Regulationsyour right to cancel an order starts the moment you place it and doesn't end until 14 days have passed from the day your goods were delivered to you. Does this help you at all? Can you send any/all of the goods back? If you have no funds in your bank account/no overdraft facility, then your bank may well decline payment to Paypal anyway.
    If not, contact Paypal, and ask them to help. They may, at the very least, be able to put you on the interest free offer they have whereby you pay no interest if the whole debt is paid off within 4 months - which would at least get you some breathing space. Incidentally, since you signed up to Paypal's 'Pay After Delivery' option it is now your DEFAULT method of payment when it's available. Again, contact Paypal and have yourself removed from this offer.

      Thankyou for your response. The majority of items are not able to be returned now and some were sent to people as presents. I literally have such bad control but kidded myself that I would be able to pay until I snapped out of it and realised how much I had spent. Do you know if I have actually committed some sort of offence. Also how many times do they try to talk payment. I would say it's about 50 different items plus. Not big individual purchases but ones that have all added up. Thankyou.

          As I understand it Paypal will make two attempts for the money from your account and your back up account. You are saying you don't have enough in either. You entered into an agreement with Paypal regarding the Pay After Delivery. You need to contact Paypal and discuss. Log into your Paypal account and disable the PAD facility, Click on the cog icon, then payments, the scroll down to where it says “Pay After Delivery is active,” and click the button that says “Pause Pay After Delivery.” This will stop the PAD feature. Then contact their customer services and discuss your situation.

            Thankyou. I have now disabled it. Do you suggest I contact them now and say I knew I wouldn't have the money or after they have tried to take it? What usually happens when they are unable to take the money? Do they send the debt somewhere?*

              You need to contact Paypal and discuss it with them, rather than guessing what they may or may not do. They may be able to offer you some assistance, i.e. possibly along the lines of shifting your debt to the 4 month interest free scheme that they also do. A minimum monthly payment applies, and after this 4 month period is up you'll pay interest on the remaining balance til cleared. However, this is just supposition, you REALLY need to contact Paypal to discuss your options, and you need to do it now. Doing nothing will in no way help you, plus defaulting on payments, and possibly incurring a charge from your bank for unauthorised overdraft isn't going to help you either. Contact Paypal.

                I have contacted PayPal and they said I won't be able to arrange to pay it off....They will send it to collections team....What do it do? Do I wait for a letter? What will collections do? Any advice appreciated please...Thankyou.

                  Collections will send letters asking for payment and you should then be able to make an arrangement with them. It might be an idea if you start putting the arrangement amount away each week now - say £10 a week or whAtever is affordable and you want to try and negotiate - then you'll be able to make a larger lump sum payment to kick off repayments and will be a bit used to not having that £10 etc( if that makes sense ).*
